Cynthia Horvath Garbutt, JD, is an attorney and senior associate director for major gifts at Northwestern, working since 2008 on behalf of the medical school to raise funds in global health and primary care medicine. She also serves on the Medical Alumni Association’s strategic initiatives subcommittees on global health and on primary care, and is the Executive Director for the Global Health Initiative Fund, founded by the physicians at Chicago Lake Shore Medical Associates, a part of Northwestern Medical Group, now known as Northwestern Medicine Primary and Specialty Care.

Nathaniel J. Soper is the Loyal and Edith Davis Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Northwestern University and Surgeon-in-Chief at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Soper has been named in "The Best Doctors in America" from 1991 through the present and has lectured extensively throughout the United States, Central and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Dr. Soper is Past-President of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the International Society of Digestive Surgery, the Central Surgical Association and the St. Louis Surgical Society. 

Claire Cunningham serves as the Executive Director of Surgical Care Affiliates Medical Missions founded in 2015. Previously, she served as Executive Director of Project C.U.R.E.  Claire served as an independent consultant for a Fortune 500 company to develop the social management strategy and stakeholder engagement plan in concordance with IFC Performance Standards. Claire received her Masters of International Development from the University of Denver, where she worked extensively in Suriname, Bangladesh, and the Galapagos Islands.  She holds a Bachelor of Communication and concentration in African Studies from DePauw University and a Certificate of Indigenous Property, Development, and Extraction in Latin America from the University of Winnipeg Global College. She has worked in more than 30 countries.

Dr. Gupta is an Assistant Professor in Anesthesiology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.  Dr. Gupta moved from St. Thomas, Virgin Islands to attend Columbia University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science. After graduation, he served as a technology consultant and computer programmer after which he made the decision to return to medical school.  He served as a research assistant at Columbus Children’s Research Institute and went on to complete medical school at the Ohio State University.  He completed his anesthesiology residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI and critical care fellowship at the University of Chicago.  After two years at Loyola University, Dr. Gupta joined the faculty at Northwestern University in 2015.  As an intensivist in the cardiothoracic ICU, he has an interest in critical care ultrasound and participates in interdisciplinary critical care simulation for fellows from various specialties.
